The municipality of Deirmimas was founded in 1961 commencing its activities with a cadre of two employees and six municipal council members elected along with the first Mayor Mr. Phillipe Awdeh.

During the Israeli occupation of South Lebanon, the municipality was placed under the supervision of the Governor of Marjeyoun from 1969 to 2001 until the first post-occupation election took place and Eng. Sami Al-Ghazzi elected as second mayor from 2001 to 2004.

From 2004 to 2010, Dr. Kamel Morkos served as third mayor of Deirmimas municipality. 2010 election brought a new municipal council to Deirmimas. Eng. Jean Hourani served the three first years and the current mayor is Eng. Walid Hasbani.
